SCVTV Presents The OutWest Concert Series:
An Evening with John Zipperer
A former TV actor and stuntman, JOHN ZIPPERER'S second chance came rolling down the highway of life, not on a carefully controlled movie or commercial set, but while changing a tire for a friend along the 285 freeway in Atlanta, GA. John was hit by a 10-wheel oil truck. After flying 40 feet and landing in the hospital, John was told by the critical care doctor, "You should be dead!" To John this seemed like a clear sign that life is, or could be, too short. He packed everything he owned into his 1976 Camaro and headed out to Los Angeles to pursue a life in music. It was ZipTime!
John's clear voice, infectious melodies and heartfelt lyrics reach fans in places that they didn't know existed. Soon everyone is singing along, swaying, chair dancing, head bobbing, and clapping. Fans remark repeatedly about the joy that is evident when the band is on stage - joy in their playing, joy for their audience, joy from their audience. John Zipperer delivers a unique and refreshing blend of rock, folk, country, and blues.

Award winning singer/songwriter JOYCE WOODSON, is a Grammy-nominated performer and the recipient of the Western Music Association (WMA) 2014 Songwriter of the Year and 2008 Song of the Year. The Academy of Western Artists presented her the 2008 Female Performer of the Year. She has shared the stage with such Western music greats as Belinda Gail and Dave Stamey. She has performed at top folk and western clubs and festivals such as the Elko National Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering, the Cochise Cowboy Gathering, and the Autry Museum. Joyce's lovely voice and striking stage presence have been compared with Mary Chapin Carpenter. With roots in acoustic folk, as well as vintage 1930's cowboy music, her songs are about what she knows - the southern CA farmlands and the ranches that surround it.

Tell us you saw this blog post - $20.00Click here to enjoy a live radio interview with band leader and founder, Alex Dormont, on Campfire Cafe.
With one boot in Cowboy music and the other in Swing, the HOT TEXAS SWING BAND is continuing the trail previously led by artists such as Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. Backed by a passion for traditional Western Swing, the Hot Texas Swing Band pushes the genre forward with fresh Rockabilly and Latin beats against original material for a new sound and high-energy live shows that have critics and fans raving.
About their new CD, "Ain't Dead Yet"
From the first track’s opening notes, I was aware of a different sound coming from this tight swing assemblage. …. Frequently when trumpet and saxophone elements are used in Western Swing, they don’t go for the big brass blare utilized by the 40s Big Bands….Here the Hot Texas Swing Band flouts it proudly and successfully. They are also not afraid to stretch, as they do in bandleader Alex Dormont’s track called “Castle Walls.” ….Some picks include the title track, “Back in My Texas Home,” “Along the Navajo Trail,” “Bang, Bang,” and “You Don’t Know Me” but it’s all good, as the saying goes. -----Rick Huff, Western Way Magazine
